Hi,I need a beginner's code to rename files using an excel macro. My documents have a common prefix '500-agentgroupevents-' followed with a variable 10 digits code. I want to be able to rename the original document to a standard name 'TestFile.xls' to facilitate the automated pull from another report. Since the last 10 digits are variable, I don't know how to use wildcards to make it work as I keep getting an error 52.I tried the following:-Dim OldFile as StringDim Newfile as StringSub Rename Oldfile = 'C:Desktopuser500-agentgroupevent-.xls'Newfile = 'C:DesktopuserTestFile.xls'Name Oldfile As NewfileEnd Sub-Please help!Thank you allBen. Thanks DustinI did find the same from excel help files, but my situation is different there are around 200 records in each excel file. I have to first reach for the file, wave and doc files(e.g name as per column A3) in a particular folder and then replace that then with some other cell refrence (e.g name as per in column D3). Is this possible.sample of data.FILEWTLEVELFiles Name143424680Discharge SummaryBOBDischargeB244276978Discharge SummaryBOBDischargeB351019478Discharge SummaryBOBDischargeB451040367Discharge SummaryBOBDischargeB551040383Discharge SummaryBOBDischargeB651051100Discharge SummaryBOBDischargeBNeed to check for the name ' 43424680' in a folder (there will be 2 files one wave and the other doc file) and then change the name to ' OBDischargeB'.Is this possible.
I could not find any help source for this, and I am not that good in VBA. Just write small macros to make my task easier and faster. Thanks for your helpRiya.
